Unless you happen to watch the program, you probably didn't catch the "RuPaul's Drag U" episode #108: "A Star is Born Again" back in 2010. The reason I'm writing about it today is because that episode featured a few TV stars from the '60s ("Gilligan's Island"), '70s ("Bewitched") and the '80s ("Dallas"). Specifically, the guest participants on that episode were Dawn Wells (she played Marianne on "Gilligan's Island"), Erin Murphy (who played Tabitha Stephens on "Bewitched") and Charlene Tilton (she played Lucy Ewing on the original "Dallas", and more recently, she guest-starred in the same role on the "Dallas" 2012 reboot, see my coverage of that HERE or at http://goo.gl/JSzlD).
Of course, none of them are regularly on TV these days, so it was a bit like watching one of the Halloween episodes of "The Love Boat" or "Fantasy Island" with a reunion of former TV stars. It's not quite like ABC's "Battle of the Network Stars", but at least a few former TV stars are featured.
In any event, this program, featuring the drag queen RuPaul Charles, perhaps best known as simply RuPaul, is a spin-off of “RuPaul's Drag Race”, a reality program featuring drag queens competing for the title of "America's next drag superstar" including prize money. In "RuPaul's Drag-U", three females are given drag queen makeovers by the winners (men in drag) of "RuPaul's Drag-U" as their Drag Professors, and the contestants are taught to access their "inner divas". In many cases, the women on the show were seen as ripe for makeovers of some sort, either because the women have not given their looks a top priority, or have focused on other elements of their lives.
Each of these former TV stars are all different ages, but it was interesting to see what they all look like 30+ years later. In my opinion, from a change perspective, no one beats Erin Murphy. She was like 4 or 5 years old when she starred as Tabitha on "Bewitched" (she was born the same year as my sister). I think she looks pretty well for her age. Dawn Wells also looked pretty decent for age 73 (hair coloring helps)! Charlene Tilton looked age-appropriate for age 53, which is neither a criticism nor a compliment ... she looked pretty much as I'd expect her to look!
Thanks to the internet, it’s possible to catch this episode which you may find amusing. Watch the full episode with Marianne, Tabitha and Lucy Ewing HERE or at http://logo.to/OO3Tjs.
